Privacy Policy

Overview

Sidescene ("we", "our", or "us") is a private social network that lets you share your upcoming social plans with approved friends. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights over it.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address. Your Apple ID is used to identify your account. You control what name is displayed to others.

Google Calendar data

If you choose to connect your Google Calendar, we request read-only access to your calendar events (using the calendar.events.readonly scope). We use this access solely to identify upcoming social events (such as parties, concerts, and dinners) to share on your Sidescene feed. We do not modify, delete, or create calendar events. We store only the events we classify as social — work meetings, reminders, and other non-social events are ignored and never stored.

Events you add manually

You may add events directly to Sidescene. We store the title, date, time, venue, and category you provide.

Usage data

We collect basic usage data (such as API request logs) for debugging and improving the service. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.

How We Use Your Data

  • To display your upcoming social events to friends you have approved
  • To classify calendar events as social or non-social using AI
  • To generate shareable profile links
  • To send friend request notifications
  • To improve the accuracy of our social event detection

Google Calendar Data — Additional Disclosures

Sidescene's use of Google Calendar data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically:

  • We only read calendar data — we never write, modify, or delete events
  • We do not share your Google Calendar data with third parties
  • We do not use Google Calendar data for advertising or to build user profiles beyond the Sidescene service
  • We store only events classified as social. Raw calendar data is not retained beyond the classification step
  • You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from your profile settings, and we will stop syncing

Data Sharing

We share your data only in the following limited ways:

  • With approved friends: Friends you approve can see your upcoming social event categories, names, venues, and times
  • Public profile: Your profile page (sidescene.co/username) shows upcoming event categories in teaser form to anyone with the link. Full details are only visible to approved friends
  • Service providers: We use Neon (database), Vercel (hosting), Anthropic (AI classification), and Branch.io (deep linking). These providers process data only as necessary to provide the service

We do not sell your data to anyone.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Calendar-sourced events are stored until the event date passes or until you delete them. If you delete your account, all your data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

Your Rights

  • Access: You can view all events on your feed at any time
  • Deletion: You can delete individual events or your entire account from the app
  • Disconnect calendar: You can revoke Google Calendar access from your profile settings at any time
  • Data export: Contact us to request a copy of your data

Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure token storage, and access controls. Google Calendar tokens are stored encrypted and used only to sync your calendar on your behalf.
